Abstract

Infectious disease is a disease that occurs in many countries in the world. One of the bacteria that causes infection is Pseudomonas aeruginosa which enters the body through mucous membranes and on the skin with open wounds. Cherry leaf (Muntingia calabura L) is a plant that contains saponins, tannins, and flavonoids which have antibacterial properties. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and cherry leaf water (Muntingia calabura L) fraction against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and to determine the most active fraction against bacteria. Extraction of cherry leaves using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water as solvents. In this study, antibacterial testing was carried out using the paper disc diffusion method with extract concentrations and fraction of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Based on the results of the study, the ethyl acetate fraction with a concentration of 30% was the most active fraction to inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 with an inhibitory diameter of 19,5mm; 17mm; and 18,5mm. Keywords : Cherry leaf, antibacterial, fractionation, Pseudomonas aeruginosa
