Abstract

Serum is a preparation with a high concentration of active substances and low viscosity which has the effect of being quickly absorbed by the skin, comfortable and easy to spread on the skin surface. Betel leaf plants contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, tannins, steroids, tannins and essential oils. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol extract of betel leaf can be made serum preparations and to determine the formula for the preparation of serum ethanol extract which has good physical quality and stability. This research used maceration method to obtain betel leaf extract with 70% ethanol as solvent. Serum preparations were made in three formulas, with various extract concentrations, namely 1%, 2%, and 3%. Physical quality testing of serum preparations including organoleptic testing, dispersion, pH, viscosity, and stability testing were carried out using the cycling test method. Physical quality and serum stability were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistic 25 method with the Shapiro Wilk test, One Way ANOVA and Paired T Test. The results showed that betel leaf ethanol extract serum preparations could be made into serum preparations that had good physical quality and stability. Formulas 1, 2, and 3 had good physical quality and stability tests on organoleptic, homogeneity and viscosity tests using the cycling test method after storage at 40 and 4 °C.
