Abstract

Acne is a pile of oil glands on the skin that are too active that are clogged with dirt and infection occurs due to the presence of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Antibacterial from nature that serves as an anti-acne is lime leaf essential oil (Citrus aurantifolia). This study aims to make formulations of anti-acne emulgel preparations with the active ingredients of lime leaf essential oil (Citrus aurantifolia) with hpmc gel base and to find out the antibacterial activity of lime essential oil that is able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This research began by making preparations of essential oil emulgel with an extract concentration of 15%, and HPMC concentration of 3; 3,5 ; 4%. Emulgel is included in the preparation of emulsion either oil in water (M / A) or water in oil (A / M) made gel by mixing gelling agent. Evaluation of the physical quality of lime essential oil emulgel preparations (Citrus aurantiifolia) includes organoleptic testing, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, scattering power, adocity, and stability. Then the last evaluation of antibacterial activity. Tests of antibacterial activity of lime essential oil (Citrus aurantiifolia) preparations against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in vitro are carried out by well diffusion method using Nutrient Agar (NA) media. The data results obtained were continued with statistical analysis tests using SPSS with the One Way Anova test. The results showed that lime leaf essential oil (Citrus aurantiifolia) with variations in HPMC concentrations can be made emulgel preparations that meet physical quality tests but for stability tests are not good.
