Abstract

Albumin is a protein component albumin is synthesized by the liver. This protein can increase the vital osmotic pressure for maintaining vascular fluid. Garlic (Allium sativum Linn) contains organosulfur compounds that consisting of diallyl disulfide, salylcysteine, diallyl trisulfide and allicin which function as antioxidants. White mices (Rattus norvegicus) that are used when research has an easy to maintain and relatively healthy nature, so that they meet the criteria as experiment animals. The aim of this research is to know the effect of garlic extract as hepatoprotector with a dose 0,10 g, 0,15 g and 0,20 g/200 g BW to albumin level on white mice (Rattus norvegicus) which induced paracetamol. This type of research is true experiment by pretest-posttest research with control-group design. The research subjects were 24 white mices divided into 3 groups (The positive control group was given standard feed and paracetamol and the treatment group was given paracetamol and garlic extract). This research was conducted on June 27- July 13, 2018 at the PAU laboratory of Gadjah Mada University. The albumin level was examined by Bromcresol green method. Data analysis was done by Shapiro-wilk test with significance p>0,05 and One Way Anova test with significance p<0,05. The average results of white mice albumin levels given garlic extract at a dose of 0,10 g, 0,15 g, 0,20 g/200 g BW decreased levels of 1,39 g/dl (32%), 0,64 g/dl (15%), 0,18 g/ dl (4%), the positive control 1,64 g/dl (39%) and there was a significant difference between giving garlic extract to albumin level. The conclusion of giving garlic extract dose of 0,10 g, 0,15 g and 0,20 g/200 g BW has an effect on albumin levels. Keywords: albumin level, garlic extract, paracetamol
