Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder due to abnormal insulin secretion and action with signs of high blood sugar levels. The purpose of this study was to examine the activity of soursop (Annona muricata Linn.) as an antidiabetic, to examine the content of active compounds in soursop plants that have antidiabetic activity, and their mechanism of action based on a literature review. This study uses a literature review method through collecting data from national and international journals with the Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Pubmed database with the keywords Annona muricata Linn. and antidiabetic activity. Data analysis in this study used qualitative analysis with four stages, namely data collection, data selection, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of a literature review of related journals are soursop plants have antidiabetic activity with parameters such as blood sugar levels, pancreatic damage, HbA1c, and insulin levels. Soursop plants contain active compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins that have a role in antidiabetic activity. The mechanism of antidiabetic activity found in soursop plants is to reduce glucose levels, reduce triglyceride levels, inhibit α-amylase and α-glucosidase, and protect pancreatic cells. Keywords: antidiabetic activity, Annona muricata Linn., literature review
