Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Bone cancer is an abnormal cell growth that occurs in the bones. Tumors can occur in any part of the bone that begins in normal cells that change and grow uncontrollably to form a mass. Bone tumors can be benign or malignant. The cause is not known with certainty but there are several factors that cause bone cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of the incidence of osteosarcoma bone cancer based on age, gender, location. This study uses the review journal method. Osteosarcoma is a malignant tumor originating from mesenchymal tissue (which is spindle-shaped stromal cells that can produce bone-like tissue), and accounts for 20% of all cases of primary malignant bone tumors in Indonesia world. The results obtained from the literature show that the incidence profile of bone cancer is caused by several risk factors. Based on the results of previous studies, bone osteosarcoma cancer patients with the highest proportion of primary bone malignancies were the most common in children and young adults aged 11-20 years. Men are more at risk of developing osteosarcoma than women. Osteosarcoma is usually found in the metaphysis of long bones where the growth plates are very active, namely; on the distal femur, proximal tibia and fibula, proximal humerus, and pelvis.
