Abstract

Lipstick is one of the most popular cosmetic products for women. Women can have more than one liquid lipstick product, so they sometimes don't pay attention to how to use it and how to store it so they are easily contaminated with bacteria. This type of research is a research that aims to determine the microbial contamination of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in samples of liquid lipstick with different usage times which can cause health problems. The samples used in this study were lipstick samples that had various criteria such as lipstick samples used within 1-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, expired lipstick samples, and new lipstick as the comparison. The lipstick sample was diluted and then planted in selective media, namely Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) and Pseudomonas Selective Agar (PSA) media then incubated in an incubator for 24 hours at 37oC. Of the 6 samples, 5 of them were positively contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and for Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, the results were negative.
