Abstract

Examination of blood fats such as cholesterol is one of the clinical parameters that is useful for heart disease, the presence of arterial disease (atherosclerosis), cerebral vascular disease (stroke), hypertension and blood obesity. Cholesterol examination can be done using serum and plasma samples. For the current condition with cases of high cholesterol in the community, where patients and doctors want quick results, based on some existing samples, plasma sample selection can be an option to get results faster. The purpose of this study was to determine the average level of cholesterol using a serum sample, the average level using a plasma sample and to determine the difference in the average cholesterol result using a serum and plasma EDTA sample This type of research uses a descriptive method that is comparing the same variables with different samples. The data collection procedure used was laboratory analysis, samples were taken randomly as many as 30 patients at Kimia Farma Yosodipuro Laboratory. Comparison of cholesterol levels in serum and plasma were tested by Paired Sample t-Test. The results of the examination showed that the average cholesterol level examination using a serum sample was 187.46 mg/dL, while the average cholesterol level examination using an EDTA plasma sample was 181.47 mg/dL, but both were still within normal limits. In the paired t-test difference test, p = 0.000 (p <0.05), it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the average results of cholesterol level examination with serum samples and EDTA plasma samples.
