Abstract

Bajakah root is one of the plants that is empirically used by the people of the interior of Kalimantan as traditional medicine. Bajakah roots contain phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins which have antifungal activity. The prevalence of fungal infections has increased since 1980 in various patient groups, the most common being Candida sp. Fungi are one of the causes of infection in Indonesia because it is a tropical country with high temperature and humidity, which increases the risk of Candidiasis. The purpose of this study was to test the antifungal activity of Bajakah root infusion (Spatholobus litterlis Hassk) against Candida albicans. The type of research used is an experimental laboratory by making an infusion from pieces of bajakah root and powder of bajakah root. Testing of antifungal activity using the disc diffusion method is to see and measure the area of resistance around the disc. Ketoconazole was used as a positive control. The results of the antifungal activity of Bajakah root infusion (Spatholobus litterlis Hassk) against Candida albicans with the disk diffusion method showed that the infusion of Bajakah root cut samples could inhibit the growth of Candida albicans, which could be seen in the presence of a radical zone with an average diameter of 20 mm and an irradical zone with an average diameter of 20 mm. an average diameter of 22.6 mm. The formation of a zone of inhibition around the sample discs indicated the presence of fungicidal compounds in the infusion of pirated roots. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the root infusion of bajakah has antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Keywords: antifungal, bajakah, root, Candida albicans.
