Abstract
Salicylic acid is a group of medicinal compounds that are widely used because of their anti-inflammatory, anti-analgesic and antipyretic effects. Salicylic acid is used as an important ingredient in many skin care products for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, calluses, warts, dandruff, and other skin problems. This study aims to determine the amount of salicylic acid contained in facial foam samples. This research uses UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Compounds that can be analyzed using spectrophotometric methods are compounds that have a chromophore group. This research method was carried out quantitatively by adding 1% FeCl3 reagent in 1% HCl and measuring its absorbance on a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 527 nm. The results of this study obtained salicylic acid levels in the sample, namely sample A of 0.823%, sample B of 0.101% and sample C of 0.128%. The level of salicylic acid in the sample shows that all samples meet the requirements based on BPOM regulation number 23 of 2019 concerning technical requirements for cosmetic ingredients that salicylic acid in ready-to-use cosmetics is not more than 3% for rinse hair care preparations and no more than 2% for other preparations.
