Abstract
Family harmony will be difficult to realize without good interpersonal relationships between husband and wife. In creating good interpersonal relationships, it is necessary to have effective communication so as to avoid situations that can ruin the family relationships to become disharmonious. This study aims to determine the relationship between interpersonal communication patterns and family harmony in married couples of different ethnicities. The hypothesis proposed in this study is a positive relationship between interpersonal communication patterns and family harmony in married couples who have ethnic differences. This study uses quantitative methods and uses purposive sampling technique. The sample used was 131 married couples of different ethnicities, who were in the age range of 25 - 40 years and marriage age between 1 - 7 years. The measuring instrument of this research is the scale of family harmony and the scale of interpersonal communication. By using the product moment correlation method with the help of SPSS 21.0 for windows. Based on the results of the study, the correlation value (r) was 0.561 with p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that there is a positive relationship between interpersonal communication and family harmony, the higher the interpersonal communication, the higher the family harmony in married couples of different ethnicities. So in this case the hypothesis proposed in the study is accepted. Keyword: Interpersonal Communication, Family Harmony, Couples of Different Ethnicities
