Abstract

Low density lipoprotein cholesterol is lipoprotein that plays role the transport of fat fractions, especially cholesterol from the liver to the peripheral cells. Increased LDL cholesterol in the blood is one causes of cardiovascular disease and atherosclerotic. Examination LDL cholesterol can be done with the methods direk and indirect (formula Friedewald ). The purpose of this study was to determine differences the results of direct methods LDL cholesterol with the Friedewald formula. The research method analytical cross-sectional observation. Data taken from laboratory information system in the laboratory of clinical pathology Regional General Hospital Dr. Moewardi Surakarta, the period January – December 2016 with total sample 390. The examination LDL cholesterol levels direk method using Homogenous assay, can measure levels of LDL cholesterol directly, while formula Friedewald used calculation to formula: LDL cholesterol = total cholesterol – (cholesterol HDL + Triglycerides 5 ) The result of LDL cholesterol direct method with the Friedewald formula obtained mean 96.89 ± 28.25 mg/dL and 94.00 ± 28.40 mg/ dL. Based on statistical calculations with Paired T-test obtained p = 0.001 (p <0.05). There is significant difference between the results of direct method LDL cholesterol with the Friedewald formula, examination LDL cholesterol levels should use the direct method.
