Abstract
Chinese Petai leaves (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit) can be used as a medicinal plant because they contain tannins, alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, saponins which have antioxidant activity. Chinese petai leaves can be developed in the form of extracts and formulated into cream dosage forms using stearic acid and triethanolamine emulsifiers. This study aims to determine the effect of stearic acid and triethanolamine emulsifiers on the physical quality and stability of cream preparations and the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of Chinese petai leaves (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit). This study used Chinese Petai leaf extract which was macerated with 70% ethanol. Cream preparations were made in 5 formulas with 3 formulas using variations of stearic acid and triethanolamine emulsifiers (11;3, 13;2, 15;1). Antioxidant cream was tested for physical quality including organoleptic test, homogeneous test, cream type test, pH test, viscosity test, adhesion test, spreadability test, and stability test. Antioxidant testing of cream preparations was carried out using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 500- 530 nm. The research results were analyzed using the SPSS method, One Way ANOVA. The results showed that the emulsifying agent stearic acid and triethanolamine had a significant effect on the preparation. Formula 1 is the best preparation because it produces cream in a semi-solid form and has a good stability value with a pH value of 6.91. Viscosity of 6,123 cpas, adhesion of 1.53 seconds, spreadability of 4.26-6.35 between formulas 2 and 3 and has an IC50 value of 131.718 ppm which is a moderate antioxidant.
