Abstract

Katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynous L. Merr.) contain flavonoids which act as antioxidants. Peel-off gel mask is a type of face mask that has the advantage of being easy to lift or remove like an elastic membrane. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of varying concentrations of gelatin and HPMC on physical quality and stability of katuk leaf extract peel-off gel masks and to determine the effect of variations in gelatin and HPMC concentration on the antioxidant activity of katuk leaf extract peel-off gel masks with IC50 values. Katuk leaves were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract obtained was then made into a gel peel-off mask preparation with a percentage of 10% and various concentrations of gelatin: HPMC. Gelatin concentration: The HPMC used was (5:2.5) for F 4, (3.75:3.75) for F 5, (2.5:5) for F 6 with 3 negative controls. Evaluation of the physical properties of the gel peel-off mask preparations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreadability, drying time. The results showed that the peel-off gel mask of katuk leaf extract with a variation of gelatin and HPMC had an effect on the physical quality of the peel-off gel mask. The antioxidant test results showed that formula V was the formula with the best antioxidant value, namely 124.164 ppm which was classified as moderate antioxidant.
