Abstract
Mangkokan leaves (Nothopanax scuttelarium L.) are leaves that contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids, which function to increase hair growth activity. Testing the activity of hair growth on New Zealand White rabbits from mangkokan leaf extract with a concentration of 25% has activity that accelerates hair growth properly. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of propylene glycol on the physical quality and hair growth activity of mangkokan leaf extract hair tonic preparations. This study made mangkokan leaf extract hair tonic preparations into 3 formulas with a concentration of 25% mangkokan leaf extract and varied with propylene glycol with different concentrations, namely Formula A, Formula B, and Formula C with concentrations of 10, 15, 20%. Then, the physical quality test and hair growth activity test of the New Zealand White rabbit were carried out with the parameters of hair length and hair weight observation. The data were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA test for normal data and the abnormal test using the Kruskal Wallis test, followed by the Tukey test. The results showed that hair tonic preparations in formulas A, B, and C had a hair growth effect, formula C had good physical quality. Propylene glycol has no effect on hair growth activity but can affect the physical quality of the preparation, namely increasing the viscosity. Hair growth activity in formulas A, B, and C had almost the same or not significantly different values, namely 13.14mm, 13.93mm and 14.28mm.
