Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic diseases characterized with hyperglycemia which is occurs due to abnormalities insulin secretion, insulin performance or both of them. The condition of hyperglycemia can cause chronic complication such as diabetic nephropathy. Kidney’s hypofunction on diabetic nephropathy can cause an increased level of uric acid (hyperuricemia) because connected with insulin resistance which often happens on type 2 diabetes mellitus through hyperinsulinemia. One of the parameter of assess kidney function in people with diabetes mellitus is the examination levels of creatinine in blood. This research aimed to determine the correlation between creatinine levels with uric acid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research uses an analytic observational research design with cross sectional approach. The secondary data included 70 samples of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research was carried out from February to April 2017 in RSUD Dr. Moewardi (RSDM) Surakarta. Statistical analysis was performed using Kolmogorov- Smirnov test to measure data normality and Rank Spearman correlation test. The result of this research showed the mean of creatinine levels of 2,4 mg/dL and the mean of uric acid levels 8,9 mg/dL. The result of Rank Spearman correlation test is obtained probability value 0,000 (p<0,05) and the correlation coefficient is 0,736, we concluded that there is a significant correlation between creatinine levels and uric acid levels in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
