Abstract
Chewable tablets are preparations intended to be chewed, easily swallowed, leave a pleasant residue and do not taste bitter. The manufacture of tablets requires additional materials to make drug preparations meet the specified requirements. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of PVP-K30 and Avicel® PH 101 on physical quality and taste response of paracetamol chewable tablets. This study used a formula containing PVP-K30: Avicel® PH 101 (1:34,75), (2:33,75), (3:32,75), and (4:31,75). Tablets were prepared by wet granulation and molded with weight of 400 mg. Evaluation of physical quality includes organoleptic, weight variation, size uniformity, hardness, friability, dissolution and taste response. The result of this study, the combination of PVP K-30 and Avicel® PH 101 had effect on physical quality and release profile of paracetamol chewable tablets. A low concentration of PVP K-30 and a high Avicel® PH 101 can improve weight variation, size uniformity, increase hardness, decrease friability, increase dissolution, and good taste response. The combination of PVP K-30 1% and Avicel® PH 101 34,75% is able to produce good physical quality and taste response and provide the best dissolution. Keywords: Paracetamol, Chewable tablets, Wet granulation, PVP-K30, Avicel® PH 101.
