Abstract
White turn leaves can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans, causes skin candidiasis, and contain compounds that have antifungal effects, such as saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. This study aims to determine the impact of cetyl alcohol as a stiffening agent in cream formulations on the physical quality stability of the preparations and their activity against Candida albicans. The cream is made by the melting method, namely mixing the water and oil phases. Creams are formulated with varying concentrations of cetyl alcohol, namely 2%, 3%, and 4%. Physical quality testing is carried out, including organoleptic, homogeneity, cream type, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreadability, and stability, using the cycling test and antifungal activity test against Candida albicans using the diffusion method. Statistical data processing with SPSS 24 uses one-way ANOVA for physical quality and antifungal activity test and paired t-tests for stability. The results showed that an increase in cetyl alcohol concentration could affect the increase in viscosity and adhesion and decrease in spreadability and pH but did not affect the homogeneity and type of cream and the stability of the preparation to become unstable. Turi Putih leaf extract cream with various concentrations of cetyl alcohol has antifungal activity against Candida albicans with the diameter of inhibition of the cream formula at cetyl alcohol concentrations of 2%, 3%, and 4%, respectively, namely 13.7 mm; 12.5 mm; and 10.3 mm. Keywords: antifungal, Candida albicans, white turi leaves, cream preparations, cetyl alcohol
