Abstract
Kasturi mango leaves are known to contain mangiferin compounds and bay leaves contain quercitrin compounds which are responsible for antihyperglycemic activity. The aims of this study were to determine whether the combination of mango kasturi and bay leaf extracts could provide better antihyperglycemic activity than a single preparation, and to determine whether the combination of mango kasturi and bay leaf extracts could improve the histopathology of the pancreas of alloxan-induced mice. In this study, mango and bay leaves were extracted by maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. The activity test was started by dividing the mice test animals into six groups, in one group consisting of five mice, namely the normal group, negative CMC Na 0.5%, positive for glibenclamide, single extract of mango kasturi leaf 150 mg/Kg BW, single leaf extract salam 250 mg/Kg BW, and a combination of mango kasturi leaf extract 75 mg/Kg BW and bay leaf extract 125 mg/Kg BW. Blood sugar levels were taken using a glucometer and data were analyzed with the help of SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions). Pancreatic histopathological examination of mice with the Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining method. The results showed that the combination of mango kasturi and bay leaf extracts could provide better antihyperglycemic activity than a single preparation and could improve pancreatic histopathology (islet diameter of Langerhans) in alloxan-induced male white mice.
