Abstract
Pain is defined as a subjective, sensory and emotional unpleasant experience associated with tissue damage or abnormal nerve function. The location of pain that people often complain about is in the abdomen. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii) contains active substances in the form of cinnamaldehyde and eugenol which actively prevent the synthesis of prostaglandins so that it dispels pain. The stick balm is a development of the balm preparation. The study aims to determine whether the essential oil of cinnamon bark can be made into a stick balm preparation that meets the physical quality requirements and to determine the analgesic activity of the stick balm preparation and to determine the effective concentration of cinnamon bark essential oil in stick balm preparations as an analgesic. Cinnamon bark essential oil was obtained by steam distillation, then formulated into a stick balm with three variations of volatile oil concentration, namely 2,5, 5, and 10%. The finished preparation was then tested for physical quality including organoleptic test, dispersibility test, adhesion test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test, and stability test. Analgesic testing was carried out using white male mice (Mus musculus L.) with the writhing test method, and the pain induction used was 1% acetic acid. The stretching that occurs every 5 minutes for 60 minutes is counted as test data. The data obtained will be processed statistically using SPSS software. The test result showed that cinnamon bark essential oil can be made into stick balm preparations that meet the physical quality requirements and are stable on organoleptic, spreadability, homogenity. Balm sticks of cinnamon bark essential oil with concentration variations of 2,5, 5, and 10% have analgesic activity with an effective concentration of 5%.
