Abstract
Okra is a plant that has the potential as a medicinal plant. The active compounds contained in the okra plant (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) include flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids which are used as antioxidants, antidiabetic, dysentery and inflammation by the community in traditional medicine. In this study, the leaves of the okra plant were studied to determine the anti-inflammatory effect and to determine the effective dose. Okra leaves were macerated with 70% ethanol. The test animals used 25 male white rats which were divided into 5 groups. The method used was intraplantar induction of carrageenan in rat feet. Then the first group was given CMC-Na as a negative control, the second group was given Na-diclofenac as a positive control, and the third, fourth and fifth groups were given test preparations at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg BW. The data taken from this research is the measurement of edema volume every hour for 5 hours. From the results of the edema volume obtained, the AUC was then calculated and the data analyzed statistically. The results of the study can be concluded that okra leaf extract has anti-inflammatory activity with an effective dose of 50 mg/kg BW which has anti-inflammatory power equivalent to Na-diclofenac, namely 39.15%. Keywords: antiinflammatory, carrageenan, diclofenac sodium
