Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels above normal (hyperglycemia). Traditional medicine is often used, one of which is Chinese petai seeds (Leucaena glauca Bth.) which contain flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids. This study aims to determine the antihyperglycemic activity and effective dose of Chinese petai seed extract in rats induced by a high-fructose diet. The test was carried out using 25 male rats induced by a highfructose diet which had previously measured blood sugar levels in rats (T0). In each group of test animals, positive control (acarbose), negative control (CMC Na 0.5%), treatment I of petai cina extract dose of 100 mg/KgBB, treatment II of petai cina seed extract dose of 125 mg/KgBB and treatment III Chinese petai seed extract dose of 225 mg/KgBB. Sugar levels were measured again on days 3, 7, 10 and 14 after treatment. The results of measuring the blood sugar levels of the rats were analyzed by the Shapiro Wilk test, the One Way Anova test and the Post Hoc test. The results showed that the seed extract can reduce sugar levels in rats. The most effective dose of Chinese petai seed extract is 125 mg/KgBB. At a dose of 125 mg/KgBB, there was no difference with the positive control group, which means that the petai cina extract had an effect comparable to the positive control group.
