Abstract

Cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta) can be used as an alternative to healing cuts because they contain flavonoids, tannins and saponins. This research is experimental in nature which aims to formulate an ointment preparation from cassava leaf extract (Manihot esculenta) which has good physical properties and quality. To determine the ability of cassava leaf extract (Manihot esculenta) ointment in expedite the recuperation of cuts in New Zealand white rabbits. To find out what concentration is most effective in expedite the recuperation of cuts in New Zealand white rabbits. Maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent for the preparation of viscous extract and prepared a hydrocarbon-based ointment preparation of a mixture of white vaseline and adeps lanae in three variations of extract concentrations of 10%, 15% and 20%. Testing the quality properties of the ointment was carried out by organoleptic test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, adhesion test, spreadability test, pH test and physical stability test. The wound healing activity test was tested on New Zealand white rabbits. The results of measurements of wound healing were statistically analyzed using SPSS. Static analysis Kruskal Wallis showed that cassava leaf extract ointment with a concentration of 20% had a significant difference from the negative control with a sig value of 0.02 <0.05. This shows that cassava leaf extract can be made into ointment preparations with good physical quality and stability. Preparations of cassava leaf extract ointment can accelerate the healing of cuts. Ointment with a concentration of 20% cassava leaf extract is the most effectual in helping cuts heal faster. Keywords: Cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta), flavonoid, ointment, maceration, cuts.
