Abstract
Red guava fruit has antioxidant compounds such as flavonoids and vitamin C which have the potential to counteract free radicals that cause memory loss. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving red guava fruit extract and the effective dose to affect the memory of balb/c strain mice induced with 10% ethanol. Red guava fruit extraction was carried out using 96% ethanol solvent using the maceration method. Memory testing was carried out using male mice which were divided into 6 treatment groups, namely the normal control group, the negative control, the positive control, and red guava fruit extract test group with doses of 10, 20, and 40 mg/kgBB. The test was carried out for 25 days using the radial arm maze method. The results showed that red guava fruit extract can increase memory activity. Test animals that have been given the preparation for 7 days after induction are known to experience a decrease in latency time and a decrease in the type B error rate, which means that the test animals have experienced an increase in memory activity. The extract at a dose of 20 mg/kgBB was known to have the highest increase in memory activity compared to the 10 and 40 mg/kgBB doses with a latency time delta of 44 and a type B error delta rate of 98,6.
