Abstract

Limited choice of contraceptive methods resulted in low participation of men in KB. Momordica charantia fruit extract and Solanum torvum fruit extract is a source of contraceptive materials from natural products. The experiment was aimed to know the effect of Momordica charantia fruit extract and Solanum torvum fruit extract on testis weight, testis and spermatozoa concentration index male rats strain wistar. Momordica charantia fruit and Solanum torvum fruit was macerated with 96% ethanol solvent. The obtained thick extract was tested on each of test animal group with dose comparisons of Momordica charantia fruit and Solanum torvum fruit: 6,75 mg/200 g BB: 6,75 mg/200 g BB, 3,38 mg/ 200 g BB: 10,12 mg/ 200g BB, dan 10,12 mg/ 200 g BB: 3,38 mg/ 200 g BB. The negative control group was given CMC 1% and the normal control without treatment. Antifertillity effect was obtained with observed decrease in testis weight, testis index and spermatozoa concentration. The result showed that combination of 96 % ethanol extract of pare fruit and terong cepoka fruit 6,75 mg/200 g BB: 6,75 mg/200 g BB, 3,38 mg/ 200 g BB: 10,12 mg/ 200g BB, dan 10,12 mg/ 200 g BB: 3,38 mg/ 200 g BB could decrease in testis weight, testis index and spermatozoa concentration. The combination of ethanol extract 96 % of Momordica charantia fruit and Solanum torvum fruit with dose 10,12 mg/ 200 g BB: 3,38 mg/ 200 g BB was the most effective decreasing weight testis, testis index and spermatozoa concentration . key words : Momordica charantia fruit (Momordica charantia L.), Solanum torvum fruit (Solanum torvum Swartz), combination of 96% ethanol
