Abstract
The design of a biodiesel factory from palm oil mill waste (POME) and methanol using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) catalysts provides very bright prospects in the industrial world considering that there are no factories producing it in Indonesia. The factory is planned to operate for 330 days/year over an area of 23,000 m2 and will be established in 2027. The location for the planned establishment of the biodiesel factory is in the Sumatra region, namely in Karang Rejo, Kec. Semaka, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung. This factory operates with a capacity of 50,000 tons/year, with the consideration that it can meet domestic needs. The process of making biodiesel takes place in the liquid phase using a stirred tank flow reactor (RATB) with pressure conditions of 1 atm, temperature 60°C. The reactions in this process are esterification and transesterification reactions. The need for POME is 24044.038 kg/hour, Methanol is 1725.613 kg/hour and 1577.156 kg/hour. For catalyst requirements H2SO4 is 36,673 Kg/hour and NaOH is 128,974 Kg/hour. The product in the form of biodiesel is 6,313.1313 kg/hour. To support the production process, a supporting unit was established, namely an air supply unit of 12888.974kg/hour. Electricity needs are obtained from PLN and two generator sets of 500 kW as backup, fuel of 0.0712 m3/hour and air pressure of 50 m3/hour. From the economic analysis carried out on this factory with fixed capital (FCI) IDR 400,187,573,720.23 and working capital IDR 130,686,609,512.08. Profit before tax is IDR 50,283,935,156.85 per year after tax is deducted by 30%, profit reaches IDR 15,085,180,547.05 per year. Return On Investment (ROI) before tax 65.338% and after tax 45.737%. Pay Out Time (POT) before tax is 1.32 years and after tax 1.79 years. Break Even Point (BEP) is 47.195% Shut Down Point (SDP) is 15.98% and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) is 5.75%. From the feasibility data analysis above, it can be concluded that this factory is profitable and worth building
