Abstract

Sterculia foetida L. leaves extract is useful plants which contains triterpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins and polyphenols, so it can be used as an antibacterial. The research to find out weather there are difference results antibacterial activity of Sterculia foetida L. leaves extracts against Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia in a patient’s UTI and pure culture. The Method used for obtaining the extract by maceration using ethanol solvent. Thick extract of Sterculia foetida L. leaves made in different concentrations, among others, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% by using a diluent Dimethyl Sulfoxide 2%. Antibacterial activity carried out by diffusion methods. Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia isolated from the urine of patients UTI and pure culture. The results showed, Sterculia foetida L. leaves Extract has antibacterial activity againts Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. The inhibition zones pure culture Sterculia foetida L. leaves extract againts Escherichia coli on the concentration of 50% is 20,33 mm, the average Sterculia foetida L. leaves extract againt Escherichia coli isolates patients UTI is 15,33 mm. The inhibition zones curvatures Sterculia foetida L. leaves extract against Klebsiella pneumonia pure culture on concentration 50% is 20,33 mm, Sterculia foetida L. leaves extract againt Klebsiella pneumonia isolates patients UTI of 18,67 mm. This shows that the inhibition zones of pure culturing both is greater rather than isolate patients UTI. Keywords: Antibacterial, Sterculia foetida L. leaves, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia
