Abstract

Soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves is one of medicinal herbs useful as antidiabetic agent. Soursop leave contains flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin and saponin. This research aimed to find out the effect of fractions of soursop leaves extract on the decrease of blood glucose level induced by alloxane. Soursop leaves macerated with 96% ethanol and then fractionated by nhexane, ethyl acetate and water. This research employed 35 male mice aged 2-3 months and weighing 20 g on average. The tested animals were divided into 7 treatment groups, each of which consisted of 5 mice. Group 1 normal control, group II negative control CMC 0.5%, group III positive control, glibenclamide 0.013 mg, group IV soursop leaves extract at 21 mg/20 g BW mice dose, group V n-hexane fraction at 4.55 mg/20 g BW mice dose, group VI ethyl acetate fraction at 11.05 mg/20 g BW mice dose, group VII water fraction at 5.38 mg/20 g BW mice dose. All of groups but normal control were induced with alloxane intraperitoneally. The measurement of blood glucose level was carried out on the days-0, 3, 7 and 14. The result of statistic analysis showed that soursop leaves extract, nhexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction groups affected significantly the decrease of blood glucose level proportional to the positive control.
