Abstract

ABSTRACT Methyl salicylate, menthol, and camphora are active ingredients that have antiirritant properties. Methyl salicylate and menthol are able to induce a cold sensation and then turn warm, so they have an analgesic effect. The purpose of this study is to Making antiirritant balm preparations with a combination of variations of cera alba as a stabilizing agent and physical quality tests on the preparations to obtain the best balm formula. The preparation of antiiritant balm in this study uses 20% methyl salicylate, as well as menthol and camphora with a ratio of 50:50 with a percentage of 7%. Cera alba is used as a stabilizing agent with concentration variations of 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%. Antiiritant balm preparations are tested for their physical quality which includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, adhesion test, and dispersion test, which were observed for 2 weeks. Then there are other tests as support such as protection tests, hedonic tests, and irritation tests. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of varience (ANOVA) which was used to determine the effect of variations in cera alba concentration on its physical quality. The results showed that the increase in the amount of cera alba as a stabilizing agent had an effect affects the dispersion and adhesion of the preparation. Judging from its stability, the best formula is determined, namely formula 2 with 20% cera alba.
