Abstract
Mulberry (Morus alba L) leaf have chemical contents of flavonoid, alkaloid, polyphenol and terpenoids suspected of having antibacterial activity. This study is aims to determine the ability of ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from the Mulberry leaf (Morus alaba L.) against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 Mulberry leaf extracted using method with 70% ethanol and then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. Extract and the result of fractions tested the antibacterial using diffusion and dilution method. Diffusion method with a concentration of 50%, 25%, 12.5% and a positive control cotrimoxazole and negative control DMSO 3%. Dilution method using serial dilutions of 50%, 25 %, 12.5 %, 6.25 %, 3.12%. 1.56%, 0.78%, 0.39%, 0.1 %, 0.09, control positive and control negative The result of this study show that the fraction of ethyl acetate has the best antibacterial activity than the n-hexane fraction, water fraction and leaf ethanol extract of mulberry leaf. The best activity in ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract of mulberry leaf at concentration of 50%, with inhibition 22.67 mm diffusion method. MKC fraction of ethyl acetate extract of bougainvillea leaf ethanol to kill Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 is a concentration of 3.12% dilution method.
