Abstract
The cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is a Solanaceae tribe. The chemical content of cayenne leaves is alkaloids, saponins, tannins and steroids. This study aims to determine the activity of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate and water from chili pepper leaves as antibacterial to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas aeruginosa grown on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) medium. The diffusion test is carried out by making six wells on the agar plate. The test group consisted of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction with 80% concentration. Positive controls use cotrimoxazole. Negative control using DMSO 5%. The ethyl acetate fraction is the most active test and is used in the dilution test. Dilution test is done by making series concentration that is 80%; 40%; 20%; 10%; 5%; 2.5%; 1.25%; 0.625%; 0.313%; 0.156%. Positive control is the most active fraction and negative control of bacterial suspension. Observed turbidity and inoculated on PSA medium then incubated at 37°C for 24 hours. Data were analyzed using anova one way. The results showed that ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction of chili leaf (Capsicum frutescens L.) had antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Ethyl acetate fraction of chili leaf (Capsicum frutescens L.) is the most active fraction as an antibacterial to Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Minimum Hamper Concentration can not be observed. Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of the ethyl acetate fraction of chili leaf (Capsicum frutescens L.) in inhibiting and killing Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 is 80%. Keywords: Chili leaves, diffusion method, dilution method, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853.
