Abstract
Red ginger plant (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum Theidela) and Turmeric (Curcumalonga L.) is one natural ingredient which has efficacy for health. Chemical constituents of red ginger and turmeric are flavonoids, phenols, oil essential, saponins and tannins. This study aims to determine the activity of red ginger rhizome extract, turmeric and grab his second combination as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Extracts of red ginger and turmeric rhizomes obtained by maceration with ethanol 70%. The extraction and combination of extracts tested antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using dilution method. The concentration of the extract used was 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.125%; 1.5625%, 0.78125%; 0.3906%; 0.1953%; 0.0976%. The results showed red ginger rhizome extract, turmeric and a combination of both have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 Minimum Kill Concentration respectively 25%, 50% and 12.5%. The combination of red ginger rhizome extract and turmeric have the most active antibacterial activity than red ginger and turmeric extracts. Keywords: Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, antibacterial, combination, red ginger, turmeric.
