Abstract
Spatial memory is working memory that is used to recall when performing certain tasks as well as a blend of attention, concentration and short term memory. Basil herb contains flavonoids, eugenol, tannins saponins which can act as an antioxidant. This study aimed to determine the effect of the herb basil fractions with different polarity to the increased level of activity of spatial memory in mice and to determine the histopathologic CA1 pyramidal cells of the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. This study was conducted to determine the activity of antioxidants found in basil herb fraction of water 110 mg / kg, ethyl acetate fraction was 48.5 mg / kg, n-hexane fraction of 120 mg / kg body weight, as well as the normal control of Na-CMC 0.5%, control alcohol 10% negative and positive control donepezil 0.65 mg / kg to be induced to mencit.Untuk assess cognitive memory retention and spatial memory picture obtained through Y maze test and the observation of the number of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cell damage and cerebral cortex picture. The results of computation time on a Y maze and yield damage of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cell counts were analyzed statistically using one-way ANOVA followed by LSD analysis. Y Maze test result and number of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cell damage and cerebral cortex observations picture showed that the ethyl acetate fraction of herbs basil give the effect that works well and there are no significant distinction between the groups fractions etil asetate with the group donepezil. Based on the results can be concluded that the fractions of ethyl acetate herb basil dose of 48,5 mg/Kg body weigh can increase the spatial memory in mice.
