Abstract

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) and turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) Is widely used as a food ingredient society everyday. Both of them can be used as an anti diabetic and anti hyperlipidemic. The purpose of this study to determine the effect ethyl acetate fraction of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) and turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) as an anti hyperlipidemic and anti atherosclerotic in insulin resistant rats. The animals test used were male rats Wistar as many as 40 were divided into 8 groups each group consisting of 5 rats. Group I as normal control, group II as a negative control (CMC-Na 1%), group III as a positive control (metformin 18 mg / 200gBB), group IV as ethyl acetate fraction of turmeric 10mg / 200g BB, group V as ethyl acetate fraction of bitter melon 0.4 mg / 200 g B, group VI-VIII were each group given a ethyl acetate fraction of bitter melon : turmeric (0.8 mg : 5 mg; 0.4 mg : 10 mg and 0.2 mg : 20 mg ). All groups were given feed HFDfructose during 45 days except the normal group was given the standard feed. Giving the fraction of the test carried out for 15 days. The results induced research using HFD-fructose can increase body weight of rats with an average index of obesity Lee > 300 and can increase fasting blood glucose levels by an average of > 130 mg / dL, except the normal group. Giving combined ethyl acetate fraction bitter melon and turmeric can be used as an anti hyperlipidemic in insulin resistant rats with optimal doses of ethyl acetate fraction pare: Turmeric (0.2 mg / 200gBB: 20 mg / 200gBB) by comparison (0.5 : 2). Key word : Momordica charantia L., Curcuma domestica Val., anti hyperlipidemic, anti atherosclerotic, HFD induced.
