Abstract

Low birth weight is a baby with birth weight 1500 to less 2500 grams. Factors that cause infant weight are influenced by several factors both from the baby and from the mother itself. In neonates and in LBW infants the incomplete liver formation causes indirect bilirubin conjugation to direct bilirubin in inperfect liver. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment originating from the heme reshuffle of hemoglobin in the process of breaking the erotrocytes by reticuloendothelial cells. Jaundice is a clinical condition in infants characterized by yellow staining of the skin or other organs due to excessive accumulation of bilirubin which further gives yellow color to the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of bilirubin in low birth weight (LBW). To determine the percentage the precentage of elevated bilirubin levels in low birth weight (LBW). This research is a type of descriptive research using secondary data using 30 samples by randomly collecting data from January 2017 - April 2018 in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. Based on the result of total bilirubin level concentration on 30 samples of low birth weight as many as 18 (60%) did not increase total bilirubin levels and 12 (40%) increased total bilirubin levels.
