Abstract

Appendicitis is the fourth most common disease in Indonesia in 2006. Incidence of appendicitis in Indonesia is high. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of antibiotic use and evaluation of rationality of antibiotic use in patients undergoing appendicitis surgery at RSUD Ir. Soekarno Sukoharjo in 2017. This research uses non experimental descriptive method with retrospective data collection and analysis using ASHP Therapeutic Guidlines 2013. Sampling technique used is purposive sampling. There were 63 data of medical record. The study was conducted by evaluating the rationale of the use of antibiotics in appendicitis-based patients on the patient's appropriateness, precise indication, precise drug and proper dose. Data obtained compared to Hospital Formulary and ASHP Therapeutic Guidlines 2013. The results showed that of 63 patients, the use of prophylactic antibiotics used in appendicitis surgery patients in RSUD Ir.Soekarno Sukoharjo 2017 is ceftriaxon 79,37%, cefotaxime 17,46% and cefazolin 3,17%. The single most common type of antibiotic therapy is the third-generation cephalosporin, which is 58,73% ceftriaxone, cefotaxime 14,29% and cefazolin 3,17%, while antibiotic combination therapy consists of ceftriaxone and metronidazole of 20,64%, cefotaxime and metronidazole 3,17%. The evaluation of the use of antibiotics in appendicitis surgery patients based on Hospital Formulary is 100% and according to ASHP Therapeutic Guidlines 2013 includes precise and accurate indication of 100% patient, 61,90% precise drug and 58,73% correct dose.
