Abstract

Famotidine is used as a duodenal and gastric ulcers, making it suitable for Orally Disintegrating Tablets (ODT) preparations. ODT has characteristics that quickly dissociate inside the oral cavity. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of superdisintegrant crospovidone® and sodium starch glycolate combination on the physical quality of the preparation and to know the concentration of superdisintegrant crospovidone® and sodium starch glycolate combination so that ODT famotidin was obtained with rapid destruction time. This study formulated a combination of crospovidone® and sodium starch glycolate concentrations of 6%: 2%, 5%: 3%, 2%: 5%. Preparation of Famotidine ODT using direct induced method. Tests conducted to determine the physical quality of famotidine ODT are uniformity of weight, size, hardness, brittleness, wetting time, crushed time, diversity of content, taste test, crushed test time in vivo and then analyzed using statistical test. The results showed that the combination of superdisintegrant crospovidone® and sodium starch glycolate had an effect on the physical quality of the preparation and the combined combination of superdisintegrant crospovidone® and sodium starch glycolate (6%: 2%) resulted in a rapid breakdown of ODT of the famotidine 33.90 seconds.
