Abstract
Verapamil HCl is one of the most frequently used medicine in the treatment of hypertension with repeatedly used frequency in a day. Verapamil HCl has low bioavailability (10-20%) and short half-life between 2-7 hours, therefore verapamil HCl needs to be formulated in slow release forms with floating systems to extend drug release time. This study aims to determine the effect of HPMC K15M that can produce tablet HCl verapamil with the best physical quality. Floating tablet verapamil HCl is manufactured by wet granulation. This study used three varying concentrations HPMC K15M with wet granulation then evaluated physical properties of powders and tablets. The resulting data was analyzed statistically one-way anova with 95% confidence level. The results of research show that the increase of HPMC K15M influential to increase the hardness of tablets and decrease the flow time, tablet fragility and floating lag time. Formula II with a concentration of 80 mg HPMC K15M produces a high hardness floating tablets, low brittleness and short floating lag time compared to formulas I and III.
