Abstract
Natrium dichlophenac is an anti-inflammation and analgesic agent, with such side effects as nausea, vomit, gastritis, and peptic ulcer. To reduce its side effects, the approach taken is to prepare topical preparation. This research employed HPMC K15 M as gel base and glycerin as humectane. The use of HPMC and glycerin affects the physical quality of gel; therefore a study should be conducted on the effect of HPMC K15M and glycerin variations that can produce the good physical quality of natrium dichlophenac gel. Natrium dichlophenac gel was made in 3 formulas with varying concentrations of HPMC K15M and glycerin: 4%:10%; 5%:9%; 6%:8%. The test was conducted for 3 weeks on the physical quality of gel tested including organoleptic characteristic, viscosity, adhesiveness, spreadability, and pH. The data was analyzed using SPSS statistic version 17.0 program with one-way Anova and Independent T-test. The result of research showed that varying concentrations of HPMC and glycerin affected the physical quality of natrium dichlophenac gel preparation including viscosity, spreadability, and adhesiveness, but not organoleptic characteristic, homogeneity and pH. The higher the HPMC concentration was used, the higher was the viscosity and adhesiveness, and the lower the spreadability of gel as it is inversely proportional to viscosity. The test results showed that the gel of diclofenac sodium with a 4% and 10% concentration variations of HPMC K15M and glycerin have a good physical quality for 3 weeks.
