Abstract
Cooking oil is a staple for human life. The high heating and frying process repeatedly on the oil will result in high free fatty acids. This study aims to reduce the volume of corn cob waste that is applied to activated charcoal and increase its added value to decrease free fatty acid content in cooking oil. This research was done by using cooking oil for frying three times, then the resultant oil was added with variation of corncob concentration (5%, 10%, and 15%) and then stuck for 24 hours, then measured the free fatty acid content. The method used to determine the free fatty acid content is Alkalimetry. The results showed free fatty acid in control oil of 0.12% and with the addition of corncobs, 0.43%, 0.37%, and 0.30% were obtained free fatty acids.
