Abstract

Plant kiapu (Pistia stratiotes L) has a compound of flavonoids, steroids,phenols, saponins, and tannins that have the potential as an antidote to free radicals. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of kiapu herb on DPPH radical (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhdrazyl) with IC50 parameter. The power of kiapu plants is macerated with 70% ethanol. The extract kiapu herb was tested for its antioxidant activity by dividing the extract into 5 series concentrations of 250 ppm, 200 ppm, 150 ppm, 100 ppm and 50 ppm and the routine standard of 10 ppm, 5 ppm, 2.5 ppm, 1 ppm, 0.5 ppm. The results showed that kiapu herb extract had IC50 value of 85.41 g/mL with routine ratio 1.170 g/mL. The conclusion obtained is the kiapu herb (Pistia stratiotes L) included into the active antioxidant level ( IC50 50-100 ppm). Keywords : Kiapu plant, Antioxidant, DPPH
