Abstract

Matoa is one of the traditional medicine as an antihypertensive drug. The pre-research in acute toxicity has a LD50 > 5000 mg/kgbw. This research was to know the subchronic toxicity towards SGOT, SGPT level, and histopathology of rat’s liver. Matoa leaves were extracted by maceration with ethanol 70%. Male and female Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups which negative control, matoa leaves extract (with doses of 150 mg/kg bw., 500 mg/kg bw., and 1000 mg/kg bw.), and satellite group. Matoa leaves extract orally, every day as long as 90 days, then continued over the next 28 days for satellite group. Then SGOT and SGPT levels examined at 0st, 90th and 118th. Histomorphological of rat’s liver examined in the end of research. Matoa leaves extract can increase SGOT levels (p<0.05) on the 90th day at dose of 500 mg/kgbw, 1000 mg/kgbw in male rats and 1000 mg/kgbw in female rats. Matoa leaves extract at dose 150 mg/kgbw, 500 mg /kgbw, 1000 mg/kgbw were not different with negative control groups in SGPT levels (p>0,05). Matoa leaves extract can affect in macropathological and increase necrosis cell (p<0,05) in Histomorphological of rat’s liver at doses 500 mg/kgbw, 1000 mg/kgbw, and satellite group.
