Abstract

Spines spinach (Amaranthus spinosus L.) is a medicinal plant traditionally used for a variety of purposes including as an antipyretic, diuretic, antiinflammatory, antibacterial and antimalarial. Spinach spines contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. This study aims to know the activity of nhexane fraction of ethanol extracts of spinach leaves and thorns against Plasmodium falcifarum determine the concentration of n-hexane fraction of ethanol extract of spinach leaves thorns effective against Plasmodium falcifarum. Solvent extraction method using 70% ethanol and the method of fractionation of n-hexane is obtained by extracting the powdered leaves of spinach with thorns using n-hexane 75 ml three times using a funnel to form a sari nhexane and sari n-hexane is then referred to the fraction n-hexane. Fraction identified and tested its chemical content antiplasmodium activity in vitro on Plasmodium falcifarum. IC50 values are calculated using linear regression analysis. The results showed n-hexane fraction of thorns spinach leaf extract showed no growth inhibitory activity against Plasmodium falcifarum. n-hexane fraction of thorns spinach leaf extract obtained results IC50 383,8 µg/ml it showed n-hexane fraction spinach leaves thorn no constraining growth activity against Plasmodium falcifarum.
