Abstract

The leaves of kapok was one of the plants used as a traditional medicine. In the country of Indonesia Ceiba pentandra Gaertn plant is useful as a traditional medicine because it was useful in the treatment of diabetes. This study aims to determine the activity of ethanol extract of cotton leaf in reducing blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. The method of extraction used was maceration because it was the simplest method and able to attract the active substances that are in the plant. This study used twenty five male rats each group consisting were 5 rats, each group was given 0,5% CMC (negative control group), glibenclamide (positive control group), ethanol extract of kapok leaf 625 mg / Kg BB rat, 1250 mg / kg BW of rat, 2500 mg / kg BW of rat, orally daily in the morning. The activity test of aloe leaf extract against alloxan-induced rats showed decreased blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. Dose of ethanol extract of cotton leaf (Ceiba pentandra Gaertn) which was most effective to decrease blood glucose level is dose 2500 mg / kg BW rat.
