Abstract
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a tropical fruit rich in phytochemically active compounds. Avocado seeds contain compounds of saponins, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenols. The aim of this research to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of the chemical content contained in avocado seeds in rats induced by toxic paracetamol. This study used 6 groups of rats, Group I as normal control group that only given CMC Na 1%. Group II as a negative control group that is given paracetamol (1.35 g / kgbw) and CMC Na 1%. Group III as a positive control was given paracetamol and Curcuma® (18 mg / kgbw). Groups IV, V, and VI were group given paracetamol (1.35 g / kgbw) and ethanol extract of avocado seeds in respective doses of 90, 180, 360 mg / kgbw. ALT and AST serum measurements were performed on day 0 (T0) and day 9 (T9). The data obtained were analyzed by one way ANOVA (one way ANOVA). The results showed that the extract of avocado seed ethanol could give hepatoprotective effect in mice by inhibiting the increase of ALT and AST levels, in group of dose III (360 mg / kgbw) had activity inhibiting ALT and AST increase most effective as equal to positive control.
