Abstract

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) is one of the plants which can be used as a traditional medicine for antioxidants, antidiabetes, dysentry and acute inflammation. This study was aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of Okra ethanol extract on the rats induced by carrageenan and to find out the safety of Okra ethanol extract against macroscopic and microscopic rats. The extract was made by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The experimental animals were divided into five groups for the carrageenan induction method including negative control (CMC-Na), positive control (Sodium diclofenac), and the okra ethanol extract test group (dose 25 mg / kg bb, 50 mg / kg bb, and 100 mg / kg bb), whereas the gastric safety test was divided into 6 groups by adding a normal mice group. The result shows that Okra ethanol extract at dose 25 mg / kg bb, 50 mg / kg bb, and 100 mg / kg bb have anti-inflammatory effect on male rats induced by carrageenan and all doses of okra ethanol extract are safe on the gastric.
