Abstract

Diabetes mellitus can affect all people in all ages and social economic. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the leading cause of mortality due to cardiovascular diseases caused, diabetics have 2-3 times higher risk than non-DM population .The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Central Java in 2006-2009 has increased from 0.83% to 1.35%. Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by increased glucose levels (hyperglycemia) chronicles that can affect many people in all walks of life. One of the health workers can play a role in the management of patients holistically is a pharmacist. The role of pharmacists in counseling that patient compliance in glucose control is also very beneficial for patients to be able to control your glucose on a daily basis. This research was conducted by collecting data prospectively by administering questionnaires MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication adherence Scale) before and after counseling to patients as a means of measuring compliance with the counseling. Questionnaire data was processed using SPSS 17.0 by paired t-test on the score MMAS-8. The results of studied analysis showed a picture level of compliance before and after counseling, low compliance rate of 100% to 0% adherence rate was 0% to 87.1% and a high compliance rate of 0% to 12.9%. Results analais paired t-test showed no significant difference in scores MMAS-8 (P <0.05) before and after counseling. Keywords : Counseling, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, MMAS, Adherence
