Abstract

The spread of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is most often transmitted from hand to hand, so there needs to be a hand antiseptic gel as a solute innovation for the community. The bangle rhizomes (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) Contain sabinene, 4-ol, sesquifelandren, cineefficacious, antibacterial compounds. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of gel hand sanitaizer essential oil rhizome bangle nutritious as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The preparation of gel hand sanitizer with the essential oil concentration of rhizome bangle is 0,8%; 1.6%; 3.2%, then tested the physical quality and gel stability. Test of antibacterial activity of essential oil gel of bangle rhizome using diffusion method and replication method. The data obtained were processed by Statistical Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with a one-track method for antibacterial activity test and two-lane method for the dosage test, to obtain the significance result from the data. The result of antibacterial gel test of essential oil of bangle rhizome with diffusion method of concentration 1,6% and 3,2% effective to kill Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 inhibitory of 27 ± 0,42 and 29 ± 0,27. In the replication method the concentration of 3.2% is effective against the decrease of the number of colonies on the hands of 81,5 ± 31,31. Based on the activity test that has been done, the essential oil gel rhizome bangle able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 2592.
