Abstract
Hypertrigliceridemia is a condition which is happened because increased triglyceride levels which could trigger lipid accumulation at blood vessel wall that caused atherosclerosis. Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei (Miq.) Koidz) leaf contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids. The aim of this study is to know that ashitaba extract can decrease triglyceride levels, to know the effective dose of ashitaba extract, and to know rat hepar histopathology. Ashitaba leaf ethanol extract in this hipertriglicemia study were used to 30 rats which grouped to 6 groups, they are control, negative (CMC-Na), positive (gemfibrozil), ashitaba leaf extract 32 mg/KgBW rat, ashitaba leaf extract 64 mg/KgBW rat, and ashitaba leaf extract 128 mg/KgBW rat. Hypertrigliseridemia induction was did by giving high diet feeds and PTU for 14 days. Ashitaba leaf extract therapy was did for 14 days at dose 32 mg/KgBW rat, 64 mg/KgBW rat, and 128 mg/KgBW rat. The result of this study showed that ashitaba leaf extract could decrease triglyceride. Hepar histopathology observation showed that bioactive components in ashitaba leaf extract could lowered fatty that showed at hepar histopathology. Dose 128 mg/kg BW rat is effective dose in decreasing triglyceride level and lowered fatty at hepar. Keywords: hypertriglyceridemia, ashitaba leaf extract, hepar histopathology.
