Abstract

Pepaya (Carica papaya, L) is one of the plants used as traditional medicine to treat skin infections. The content of papaya seeds are flavonoids, alkaloids and terpenoids. This study was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate and air from papaya Minimum seeds (Carica papaya, L), the most active light fraction, and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and Kill Concentration from the most active fraction against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Papaya seed extraction using maseration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water solvents. Extraction and fractionation results were tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylocccus aureus ATCC 25923 using diffusion method with concentration 50%, 25% 12,5 and dilution method with concentration 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3, 12%, 1.56%, 0.78%, 0.39% and 0.09% respectively. Based on the results of the study showed ethyl acetate fraction had the most active inhibitory power against Staphylocuccus aureus ATCC 25923 which was 17 mm at a concentration of 50%. Minimum Kill Concentration (MKC) ethyl acetate fraction on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 was a concentration of 6.25% using the dilution method.
